Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online and Windows Azure Active Directory

While I was doing some research about how authentication is handled (technically) in cloud environments, I was also curious about how the same is handled in Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online and learned that it leverages Windows Azure AD (Active Directory) as an authentication mechanism. Similar applications which uses WAAD includes Office 365, Windows Intune and Windows Azure.

What is WAAD (Windows Azure Active Directory) ?

Windows Azure Active Directory (Windows Azure AD) is a modern, REST-based service that provides identity management and access control capabilities for your cloud applications. Now you have one identity service across Windows Azure, Microsoft Office 365, Dynamics CRM Online, Windows Intune and other 3rd party cloud services. Windows Azure Active Directory provides a cloud-based identity provider that easily integrates with your on-premises AD deployments and full support of third party identity providers.

This will completely enhance the Online user experience and increases data security.
